My Daughter, The Writer.

Posted on November 4, 2014 by Resa

In case you didn’t know this already, I am participating in nablopomo and it is day 4 (!!!)

I entertained the idea of nanowrimo but after realizing that I will easily write 50000 words (or close to it) this semester for school, I opted not do to so. I can handle a daily blog post. I think.

My daughter J, though, who is 13 going on 14 and in the 8th grade; is doing the Nanowrimo challenge.  This means that if she is successful (which I have no doubt that she is capable of) She’ll have an entire novel written in one month.  Did I mention I have been working on my one novel for several years now?

Last night she offered to let me read the beginnings of her story and all I could think after reading it was Wow.  My daughter is a writer.  My daughter is a writer.

So this novel of hers; all I can say again is WOW. She’s quite the writer, my daughter. Last night she said maybe she’ll be one of the youngest published novelists.  I tell you, this girl knows no limits.  She aims as high as she can see and beyond that.

And honestly, she’ll succeed no matter what she does.

We started talking about writing our stories and her face lit up like I have never seen before.  It was amazing. She has the passion, too.

If you’re a writer, you know that there is nothing better than talking with a fellow writer; about sharing the craft, getting ideas and inspiration from each other, etc.  There is nothing better than being around people who get why you actually like sitting at a computer for hours on end, typing. Most people don’t get that, nor do they want to get that.

But my daughter; she gets it. She is a writer, like me.

And I’m already thinking of the collaborations we’ll do together; the mother daughter writing team we’ll be become, the stories that together, we’ll tell. (When I told her that, she rolled her eyes. She’ll come around on that one.)

I can’t wait.

Nanowrimo is National Writing Month and Nablopomo is national blogging month. 🙂 50000 words in the month of November (one novel) or one blog post every day in the month of November.
